Our Scholarship

Our scholarship is awarded bi-annually to qualified applicants to help them to pursue their educational and life goals.

Healthy Eyes Foundation Scholarship

Legally Blind

The scholarship applicant must have medical documentation that he/she is legally blind.


  • Complete lack of sight form and visual light perception and is clinically recorded as NLP (No Light Perception); of having less than 1/10 of normal vision in the more efficient eye when refractive defects are fully corrected by lenses.

  • Legally blind (as recognized by law in most states) means that the better eye, using the best possible methods of correction, has visual clarity of 20/200 or worse or that the visual field is restricted to 20% or less.

High School Senior

Applicant must:

  • Be classified as a graduating senior
  • Must have a 2.0 GPA or above (Provide officail transcript)
  • Must be in good citizenship standing with high school

College Acceptance

Applicant will provide a letter of acceptance into an accredited, college, university or technical school beyond the high school level in the State of South Carolina.

Short Letter

Applicant must submit a one page letter explaining the reason why they need the scholarship (minimum 50 words)

*Finalists may be asked to complete an interview with the Scholarship Committee*

Scholarship Award

The scholarship award is subject to availability of funds, the equipment available and the number of qualified applicants.

Deadlines

Applications are open between the dates of
January 1st and March 31st each year

Distribution

This scholarship award can only be used for tuition, room and board or books. (Scholarship award may also include equipment)

Step 1

Provide Documentation

All documents of legal blindness and your high school transcript must be mailed or emailed to the address below.

Review Process

The review process takes approximately five business days. This review process will begin when all required materials are recieved.

Step 4

Award Letter

After our review process an award letter will be sent to the student, the student's high school and his or her college, university or technical school of choice, dictating the scholarship amount given.

Step 5

Bi-Yearly Check-in

Once the awardee has entered his/her higher learning instituiton of choice, the scholarship committee will reach out to the student to check-in on the student's academic well-being and reassess the student's financial need.

AFTER WINNING OUR SCHOLARSHIP

You could qualify to receive financial assistance from the Healthy Eyes Foundation throughout your matriculation on a biannual basis. The process for reapplying is outlined below:

Provide Financial Aid Documents

The student will provide financial aid documentation from institution of choice stating amount needed.

Provide Institutional Documents

The student will also provide an updated transcript (2.0 GPA min.) and proof of status as a full-time student (12 hrs. min).

Scholarship Committee Review

Once documents are submitted, the scholarship committee will review the request within 5 workdays.

Scholarship Committee Recommendation 

After the committee has reviewed requests, they will make a recommendation and notify the student's institution.

Award Letter

An award letter will be sent to recipients and their institutions of choice.

Recipient Notification

Students will then be informed by their institutions on who, how and when the scholarships were awarded to recipients.
